Getting Started with Counselling

The thought of starting counselling can be daunting, but by reading this website, you have already taken the first step towards getting help. So, if you think that counselling is for you, the next step is to ring or email me so we can arrange a time to meet. If I don't answer the phone, please leave a message and I will contact you as soon as I can.

In the initial consultation (which lasts up to 90 minutes) you will have the chance to tell me your reasons for seeking help and I will tell you how I work and what I can offer you. Then we can come to an agreement and fix a time to continue meeting. Sessions are normally weekly and last 50 minutes.

How long does counselling last?

The duration of counselling depends on what you are looking for, the nature of your difficulties and what you can afford. If you want to address a specific issue, we can work in a focused way towards a resolution which may take a few weeks or months.

However, if your problems are more deep seated and have lasted a long time, it may take longer to resolve them and so an open-ended approach is preferable. This may involve sessions twice or three times a week. In either case, we work towards a mutually agreed ending.
