COUNSELLING & HOW I WORK

There are times when emotions become overwhelming and it’s hard to cope with life.

A counsellor can help you try and make sense of yourself and what is happening to you.

Counselling offers a safe, confidential space where you can explore and work through your difficulties. In counselling, you will be listened to with empathy and sensitivity. You will not be judged or criticised. You will be given the time you need to talk things through slowly and steadily. The trust that develops between you and your counsellor can give you the courage to tackle deep-seated issues and bring about lasting changes enabling you to live a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Why see a counsellor?

People come to counselling for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, you need more than the support of family and friends to help resolve your difficulties. This is when it’s worth seeking the professional, objective help of a counsellor or psychotherapist.

o You may be seeking help because you are feeling depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, hopeless and unhappy.

o Your relationship may be in difficulty or you may struggle to make or sustain an intimate relationship with another person.

o You may have experienced a trauma, lost a loved one and are grieving.

o You may feel very sad or uncontrollably angry, but not know why.

o You may feel hopeless and that life is not worth living, or have no direction in life and feel lost.

o Your problems may stem from childhood experiences or be linked to your current situation.

o You may want help with a particular problem like an eating disorder, chronic illness, panic attacks, or you may not know what is wrong or why you feel the way you do.

How I work

I see adults and young people (11-18 years) for once-weekly sessions which last 50 minutes. I will listen to your problems and help you understand yourself better. I am a psychodynamic therapist and this informs how I work. See counselling approach.

Sometimes, I work more intensively with clients offering twice-weekly sessions. This provides more support especially when you are feeling very distressed and vulnerable. It also enables us to explore your difficulties at a deeper level.
